This comes approximately two weeks after the Governor of South Carolina, Henry McMaster, and other Governors, stopped additional unemployment benefits.
Governor of South Carolina Henry McMaster (R) , stated recently that the payment of additional benefits to assist individuals run their households was a "clear and present danger" to the health of to the health of our State's businesses and to our economy.
Governor of South Carolina Henry McMaster (R) , stated that South Carolina Unemployment has become a "dangerous federal entitlement".
This statement was made, with no presented evidence to back up the claim. This statement was made long after the July 20th article by Mike Cummings stating that Yale Researchers did a study and found there was NO EVIDENCE linking the federal benefits to individuals refusing job offers. (Cummings 2020).
Only valid, individuals, whom are actually looking for employment, and can prove it are counted within the Unemployment numbers. This is monitored on a weekly basis and if individuals do not comply with the rules and regulations of the department, their benefits are stopped. Obviously, the quicker a recovery takes place and people are back to work, the better it looks for a politician that may be running again. It makes it seem that there is leadership and a business friendly environment occurring.
Now that the Delta variant of COVID is showing up in the region, will be be on lockdown again with no actual plan, changes in rules from day to day, when can be go to work, whom is essential, whom is not? These are questions that will be asked. When it is in Henry's best interest cooks, servers, gas station employees, logistics employees and medical workers are there to take the call, we call them "Heroes" some get paid like they should but not all. So, how did these "Heroes" turn into bums that are sponging off the system. This is pretty much what the Governor is implying, with no evidence. If he can shut off this federal program while children go hungry and evictions are taking place, what will he shut off next? Social Security?

I would like to see the evidence behind his statements that pretty strong. What prompted this really downstate tourism that needed cheap leader for a few months? Then where will these citizens be right back on unemployment, with a 209 weekly payment, that doesn't go too far and won't likely pay the rent.
Small Businesses Lose!
As the Governor discontinued participation for the Unemployed in the federal portion off the Unemployment Program, this means that the, legal, and compliant claimants in a needs-based financial social security program and "federal entitlement". (McMaster 2021). These are his own words, no longer have this extra money to spend locally at local businesses, grocery stores, gas stations, day care, clothes for a new job, rent, utilities etc. the basics of life.
So, it is not only the families, the "Heroes" that we depended on during the COVID Crisis Phase 1, but now that we have a new Delta Variant arriving these Heroes may have a death sentence if they can not pay their health insurance and get sick. How much life can you afford?
Who is the real "clear and present danger ?" Our heroes or our Governor? Why is there no Executive Order to require a livable wage on all new and existing employers?
By the way, according to the constitution of the state of South Carolina, the annual pay for the Governor is, $106,078 (2013), so he can really relate to the needs of the people at street level.
