Checkpoint Yields 249.4 grams Heroin

SALTON CITY, Calif. – Border Patrol agents report they have seized methamphetamine at the Highway 86 checkpoint on Friday morning.


The incident occurred at approximately 7:05 a.m., when a woman driving a white 2002 Nissan Sentra approached the checkpoint for inspection.  A Border Patrol canine detection team alerted to the vehicle.  Agents sent the vehicle to secondary inspection for further investigation. 


A search of the vehicle revealed a package hidden inside a lunch bag and a bundle on her person.  The substance inside the package tested positive for the characteristics of black tar heroin and the bundle on her person tested positive for the characteristics of methamphetamine.


The total weight of the black tar heroin was 249.4 grams; the total weight of the methamphetamine was 30.1 grams.  The total value of both narcotics combined has an estimated street value of $26,290.


The driver, a 38-year-old United States citizen, the vehicle and narcotics were turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration.
