Fjord Trail Plans Continue, Town Receives Update

TOWN OF FISHKILL, NY: RELEASE

Town Councilmember Louise Daniele stressed the need for a strong focus on safety. "My big concerns are always safety and liability," Councilmember Daniele said.

At Wednesday's Town Board meeting, the Board heard a presentation from Amy Kacala, executive director of the Hudson Highlands Fjord Trail, an ongoing project to create a connected outdoor trail network through the Hudson Highlands, linking Long Dock Park in Beacon with the Village of Cold Spring, seven miles south.

A majority of the trail's planned route passes through the Town of Fishkill, and Town Board members were impressed with the progress in the project's plans. Of key focus at Wednesday's presentation were plans for the Breakneck Connector, a key redevelopment of the area surrounding Breakneck Ridge in the Town of Fishkill. The proposal involves creating safe parking areas and pedestrian crossing points, as well as lowering the speed limit on Route 9D in the vicinity of the trailhead and the tunnel to improve safety. A planned pedestrian bridge will span the MTA MetroNorth tracks and connect walking paths on both sides, while further trail development will ease accessibility from the Breakneck station, encouraging safe and efficient flow of visitors.
