This Day in Black History 8/19 Takes us to the Stars


On "This Day in Black History" we learn about a gentlemen who took our Country to Space and beyond. In 1946 Mr. Charles Frank Bolden, Jr. was born in Columbia, South Carolina.


1946: COLUMBIA, South Carolina: Mr. Charles Frank Bolden, Jr. was a former Administrator of NASA. He was born on August 19, 1946.

Charles Frank Bolden, Jr., was the first permanent African American Administrator of NASA. Prior to working with NASA Bolden, Jr., served in United States Marine Corps as a Major General and a former NASA astronaut.



1968: United States Naval Academy; Bolden graduated from the United S


tates Naval Academy with a B.S. Degree in Electrical Science. In 1977 he earned a Masters Degree in Systems Management from the University of Southern California.


He served in the Vietnam War as a pilot and flew between 1972 and 1973 over 100 sorties in North and South Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia.







Birthdays:

On today's date rapper (Nathaniel Dwayne Hale) "Nate Dogg" was born, in Clarksdale, MS. He is best known for "Regulate" and released "Music and Me" which rose to Billboard's list to #3. When Snoop Dogg, joined Death Row Records. His influence can be heard in "The Chronic" and on "Doggie Style". Mr. Hale, enlisted in the Marines shortly after his 17th birthday. His life was cut short by strokes and he passed on March, 15, 2011.




Romeo Miller, rapper from New Orleans, LA who recorded under the name "Lil Romeo" when he was only eleven, not only proved himself with his singing but also also acted in the movies "Lottery" and "Jumping the Broom"


His debut single "My Baby" reached #1 on the R&B/hip-hop singles chart and became certified platinum.



Paula Jai Parker

Paula Jai Parker is an American actress, comedian, director and singer-songwriter. She earned her way into a number of iconic roles in films, including Friday (1995), Sprung (1997), Why Do Fools Fall in Love (1998).


Parker was born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio, but moved to Washington, D.C. in 1987 to study at Howard University. After graduating with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree, she moved to New York City and played a number of clubs. From 1992 to 1993, she performed on the FOX comedy program The Apollo Comedy Hour, filmed live at the legendary Apollo Theater, and later was cast member on the short-lived sketch show, Townsend Television.


Glenn Travis


Glenn Travis is a Pop singer who is signed by the record label PARADIGM. He released his debut album Prelude in 2017. He's also known for his hit single "Feel My Love".

He released his first single "Never Wanna Leave" in 2016. He surpassed 19 million views on his self-titled YouTube page, where he shares most of his work.
