The National Weather Service in Greenville-Spartanburg has issued a

* Urban and Small Stream Flood Advisory for...
  Central Catawba County in the piedmont of North Carolina...
  Central Iredell County in the piedmont of North Carolina...
  Northwestern Rowan County in the piedmont of North Carolina...

* Until 830 PM EDT.

* At 517 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain due to
  thunderstorms. This will cause urban and small stream flooding.
  Between 1 and 3 inches of rain have fallen.

* Some locations that will experience flooding include...
  Hickory, Statesville, Newton, St. Stephens, Conover, Troutman,
  Claremont, Cleveland, Catawba, Lake Norman State Park, Lookout
  Shoals Lake, Lake Norman, Lake Hickory, Mountain View, Sherrills
  Ford, Bandys, Oxford, Mount Ulla, Startown and Piedmont Research
  Station.

Additional rainfall of 1 to 2 inches is expected over the area. This
additional rain will result in minor flooding.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Turn around, don`t drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.

Excessive runoff from heavy rainfall will cause flooding of small
creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses
as well as other drainage areas and low lying spots.

In hilly terrain there are hundreds of low water crossings which are
potentially dangerous in heavy rain. Do not attempt to cross flooded
roads. Find an alternate route.
