Special Weather Statement

  • Issued by the National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration

AREAS AFFECTED : ABBEVILLE; ANDERSON; CHEROKEE; CHESTER; GREATER GREENVILLE; GREATER PICKENS; GREENWOOD; LAURENS; SPARTANBURG; UNION; YORK

...PATCHY FREEZING FOG AND DENSE FOG POSSIBLE OVERNIGHT...
Fog is expected to continue expanding across the Piedmont and
portions of the foothills tonight. The fog may become locally
dense later tonight, reducing visibility to 1/4 mile or less.
Temperatures are also expected to cool to the upper 20s and lower
30s, primarily in areas roughly along and north of I-85. In areas
where fog is dense, water droplets may freeze on elevated
surfaces. A few slick spots could therefore develop on bridges and
overpasses by the time of the morning commute. Patchy dense fog,
reducing visibility to 1/4 mile or less, will also create adverse
driving conditions through the overnight.
The fog is expected to gradually dissipate from the northwest
overnight, and most areas should see the fog dissipate by shortly
after sunrise. Motorists traveling across the Piedmont and
foothills tonight into Tuesday morning should slow down, use low
beam headlights and allow for plenty of distance between yourself
and other vehicles.
